Humane values spread during Buddha’s birthday celebration

-Diverse activities have been held across Vietnam to celebrate Lord Buddha’s birthday which falls on May 12 this year.

Vesak Celebration 2025 at Quan Su Pagoda in Hanoi

On Monday morning, the Vesak Celebration of Buddhist Calendar Year 2569 was held at Quan Su Pagoda, the headquarters of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, drawing large crowds of Buddhist followers and local residents.

The highlight of the ceremony was the Buddha bathing ritual, a sacred tradition imbued with deep symbolic meaning.

The same day, a similar celebration took place at Vietnam Quoc Tu Pagoda in District 10, in Ho Chi Minh City, attracting thousands of monks, nuns, and Buddhist followers.

Addressing the event, Nguyen Manh Cuong, Head of the Mass Mobilization, Education and Communications Commission of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, said that with the spirit of protecting the nation and bringing peace to the people, Buddhism has always accompanied the nation, contributing to the building of a humane society.

The image of monks and nuns participating in community activities, pandemic prevention, environmental protection, and caring for the vulnerable has left a deep impression and earned the respect of the people, said Cuong.“We have always regarded the promotion of great national unity, particularly the close bond and cooperation with religious organizations including the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, as a key factor in preserving stability, fostering sustainable development, and improving the well-being of the people,” according to Cuong.

He added, “The city will continue to support and create favorable conditions for religious activities, building a civilized spiritual environment that helps strengthen public trust and uphold the spirit of living a good life and practicing a good religion.”

On this occasion, Most Venerable Thich Tri Quang, the Supreme Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, called on every Buddhist to always diligently practice the religion, spread love to all living beings, and light up the world with compassion and wisdom.

The Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ho Chi Minh City donated 80,000 USD to the municipal Fund for the Poor and the Fund for the Homeland’s Seas and Islands – For the Nation’s Frontlines.
